Annual Primary Assessments – Complete Set

£300.00 £255.00

Pupil friendly checks to measure progress and depth of learning for Years 1, 3, 4 and 5.

Each year’s assessments are age-appropriate. Not only do they follow that year’s National Curriculum objectives, but give your teachers a pupil-friendly way to check depth of learning and gently prepare pupils for examination conditions.

Strands within reading, writing and maths are assessed together, helping teachers easily identify where learning has stuck and where extra help might be required. These are clearly laid out in the marking scheme, so your teachers don’t have to work hard to quickly identify these areas.

Analysis gained from these summative assessments is perfect for giving feedback to parents, or for handing on to the receiving teacher. Alternatively, because the checks are so easy to run, you can assess each pupil at the beginning of the next year, to help plan strategies for the coming academic year.

Teachers will find the assessments simple – with a Teacher’s Booklet for each year that provides a no-fuss marking scheme and advice on analysing results.

What’s in the Complete Set?

The Complete Set includes photocopiable Master packs for Years 1, 3, 4 and 5.

While the content of each year alters to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum, each year’s Master pack includes photocopiable assessments for maths, reading and writing, plus a Teacher’s Manual.

Within the different subjects, the assessments themselves are broken up in to a series of tasks, the majority of which are to be done under test conditions. However, the Annual Primary Assessments also contain elements that can be carried out in class time. An example of this is the review of reading that each child will be asked to complete.

This has the benefit of helping the school track strands that are usually assessed by teachers, as well as the other strands that are assessed through formal, summative checks.

Each Teacher’s Booklet contains:

  • Advice on administering the assessment
  • A mark scheme
  • Record sheets (both absolute and comparative)
  • Advice about interpreting the results

Assessment expert, Sue Hackman has developed these primary assessments to ensure that they are clear, precise and easy to administer and mark.

“Instructions are clear and the pupil record sheet would be particularly useful for feeding back to parents and for the following teacher.”   Forest View School, Notts’

“Clear and useful – effective and detailed.”    The Three Schools, Milton Keynes

Product Description

Do you know for sure how your pupils are progressing in the non-SATs years (1, 3, 4 and 5)?   35% of Autumn Ofsted reports were critical of internal tracking. They say that teachers are not well equipped to respond in a timely fashion to strengths and weaknesses in individual pupils.

Can you spot weak topics?  The Annual Primary Assessment reports provide at–a-glance results, plus a ‘thermometer’ presentation of relative strengths and weaknesses, ideal for busy teachers and senior leaders requiring a quick overview of performance.

Do you know in good time whether your pupils have sufficient skills to tackle tests?   The most common shortcomings in test techniques are not easy to resolve during a late push in Year 6.  Slow writers, slow readers, children with weak retrieval skills and poor interpretation of questions face challenges that cannot be ‘fixed’ at the last minute. Weak skills need to be identified much earlier and worked on gently over time.

Simple tests allow you to spot these pupils and support them over time using non-threatening tests introduced sensitively over the years to avoid an anxious sprint in Year 6. Schools that have a good grip on standards use informal tests as just one of a school’s assessment techniques, to corroborate classroom impressions and pinpoint the quality of unaided work.

Do you have the Standard right yet?  An increasing number of schools are criticised by Ofsted for having a weak grasp of the new standard.  7% of schools received a negative front-page key finding because they are overestimating pupils. Don’t be caught out: the Annual Primary Assessments offer a quick and easy way of checking that each cohort is on track against the absolute standard of National Curriculum expectations.

Are you in line with government recommendations?  The Annual Primary Assessments enable you to take a quick unbiased check on National Curriculum objectives so that you can identify the strengths and weaknesses of individuals, classes and cohorts, and is an approach that featured in the DfE’s Commission on Assessment without Levels September 2015 report.

While the content of each year alters to meet the requirements of the new National Curriculum, each year’s Master pack includes photocopiable assessments for maths, reading and writing, plus a Teacher’s Booklet for each year.
